A Singing Accountant!

No matter how long people have been in “the business”, the sheer scale of doing your own books, accounts and tax return over the year can stifle your creativity.  Simple things such as having all valid information on your invoices, for example sequential invoice numbers, tax point date, customer name & address, can cause issues with HM Revenue & Customs under their business records check programme. Information doesn’t need to be electronic, keeping a manual performance diary can be used as a business record.

So, how was your 31st January deadline this year? Were you scrabbling around to find those long forgotten invoices, receipts that you put somewhere safe, mileage details to those concerts you’ve performed in or even visits to your own teacher/mentor? Does this strike a chord with you? If so, I am here to lend as much of a helping hand as you think you need.

Naturally, you say at the beginning of each year that you will be more organised, do the returns early. You may even promise to yourself that you will seek help in keeping records & understanding the forms and obligations you have to the tax man. However, the tax man can ask to view your accounting records at any time and ask questions about when & how they are written up. He’s not going to be happy if you tell him in the last few days of January. But time slips by and the pain fades into the dim and distant memory banks until you see the advertisements back on the television, on the tube, on the sides of buses or in the newspapers.

Here at Performance Accountancy, we specialise in clients within the entertainment industry.  Some of our clients are West End Pianists, Singers, Actors, Cabaret Promoters as along with other clients with a creative mind.
